Animated characters by year[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus to delete Animated characters by year of introduction hierarchy; merge film and TV hierarchies three ways. However, the merger to Category:Animated characters in film or Category:Animated characters in film should be manual, as the contents may already be in other sub-categories of those two. – Fayenatic London 14:00, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Subcats by year
  • WP:OVERCAT, why do they need to be specified that they are animated here? Especially when there is otherwise perfectly valid categories they can go in. (Oinkers42) (talk) 15:15, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - a triple merge is required: Category:Animated film characters introduced in 2019 needs to be upmerged to Category:Film characters introduced in 2019, Category:Animated characters in film and Category:Animated characters introduced in 2019 (or Category:Fictional characters introduced in 2019). Oculi (talk) 19:43, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge the others to Category:Animated characters by year of introduction, which should be renamed to Category:Animated characters by year introduced or its relevant annual subcat. I doubt the distinction between film and TV is useful. Peterkingiron (talk) 20:53, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nominator. --Just N. (talk) 21:22, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • If the categories are not kept it should be a triple upmerge, per Oculi. There is no reason to empty the parent categories if they have not been nominated. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:00, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose There is a valid reason to specify that they are animated. To track down characters that are significant to the history of animation. Dimadick (talk) 12:13, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: this hierarchy was started in 2020, by an editor who then got banned. A year ago I left a note inviting members of WikiProject Fictional characters to expand and populate it, but there was apparently no response. – Fayenatic London 20:59, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
