Nominator's rationale: "Films by studio" category for a thing that isn't actually a film studio, but simply a funding agency that provides grants to the studios, with the result that the minor funding participation of Eurimages isn't a WP:DEFINING characteristic of the films. This is, further, effectively unmaintainable -- just on IMDb alone, Eurimages has participation credits on at least 1,000 films (and when you consider how flawed and incomplete IMDb can be, it almost certainly has at least twice as many as that in reality), but just six of them have actually been highlighted for inclusion here.

Nominator's rationale: Single-entry "films by studio" category for a company that isn't normally a film studio. The CBC is a radio and television broadcaster first and foremost, meaning that a CBC-produced film is virtually always a television film rather than a theatrical one -- but Category:CBC Television original films already exists for that, making this redundant to that in almost every case where it could ever be useful. And while there is one theatrical non-telefilm filed here, it's one where "CBC Films Sales" was only a secondary "in association with" credit rather than a primary studio, so the minimal CBC involvement in that film isn't a defining feature of that film. This was, further, created by Gng1999, a serial overcategorizer who's been blocked from editing Wikipedia in part due to their serial overcategorizing. Nominator's rationale: merge, Greece did not exist until 1830 so that seems the best point to start year categories. The decade categories do not have to be merged to Ottoman Empire decade categories because the articles are already in Ottoman Empire year categories insofar applicable (or in one case in a Republic of Venice year category). Oppose: We have a category tree under Category:Ottoman Greece, so I don't see how it helps to merge these year and decade categories into the Ottoman empire (which is huge). The situation seems to me analogous to the decade categories for Mexico, Cyprus, Argentina, etc, all of which have categories from before they existed as independent states.   • Rename but to "Ottoman Greece". I am insufficiently knowledgeable to know how many provinces this refers to. The Ottoman province of Macedonia seems to have been divided between divided between Greece and what became Yugoslavia during the Balkan wars and anything there should be purged into a more appropriate provincial category.     I understand the spirit of this suggestion but I disagree in practice. "Ottoman Greece" isn't a discrete place with well-defined temporal or geographic boundaries. If you asked present-day Greek nationalists, they would include, not without all merit, not only the modern Greek republic but most of Asia Minor, Cyprus, and Northern Macedonia as "Ottoman Greece". In an article you can explain the subtleties, but that gets lost in a category. In the interest of moving this along, apparently we have to voice a more specific opinion... The Roman Castholic Church in Eritrea has been suppressed; only the Eastern Catholic church remains. Rather confusingly, it is called the "Eritrean Catholic Church".     @Laurel Lodged Is the nominator aware that "Eastern Catholic" is NOT the name of a particular church but rather an umbrella term? One of the Eastern Catholic churches is literally named "the Eritrean Catholic Church" and these cathedrals belong to that particular church.   • I can tentatively support a reverse merge for this and the other one where @Marcocapelle has commented, but it doesn't make any sense to me to merge in the other direction and lose precision. Especially since the appearance of non-Eritrean, Eastern Catholic cathedrals in these cats would be highly unlikely. Reply I think that there may be a misunderstanding. "Eritrean Catholic" refers to a particular denomination. It does not refer to Catholics who live in Eritrea. The denomination is to be distinguished from the Catholic Church in Eritrea (i.e. the Latin church) which used to exist in Eritrea but no longer does. Yes, I am not sure what you mean by "denomination". The Eritrean Catholic Church is every bit as Catholic as the Latin Church. They are both in full communion. Neither call themselves "denominations". The Eritrean Catholic cathedrals listed in the cats are simultaneously Eritrean Catholic, "Roman Catholic" (broadly construed), and Eastern Catholic.     @Marcocapelle, that category is altogether too specific. Why be redundant about it? Is a hypothetical, future Eritrean Catholic cathedral outside Eritrea (diaspora) not going to fit in your proposed category?
    Now I can see that Category:Eastern Catholic cathedrals in Eritrea may have a future hope of being populated by non-Eritrean buildings such as an Ethiopian, Coptic, Latin, Melkite or Maronite building, for example, so there is a good rationale to establish and maintain that category regardless of its overlap with the more specific Eritrean Catholic category.   • Merge, yes but only as proposed by nominator. I too believe that we should follow church denomination, hence, if it's Easter Catholic than it can't be confused with a Roman - it's an autonomous church with 23 sui juris individual churches, all in communion with the Pope. I suppose that Eritrean Church has enough buildings, priests, etc. to write an article about them, so having cat for Eritrean Eastern Catholic church is absolutely a must have.--౪ Santa ౪99° 14:45, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
