Nominator's rationale: WP:OCLOCATION, WP:SMALLCAT, not a useful division - car chasm (talk) 00:26, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

— this is a mess. Both are under Category:Hellenistic-era philosophers by origin or region, but "Hellenistic era" is ended by "Roman era". So they are unlikely to be both! Worse, Andronicus of Rhodes has Rhodes in his name (by ancestry), but taught in Rome; not Ancient Rhodian, actually Ancient Roman. Let's agree that during Ancient Roman, we categorize by language, not by city.

Let's handle these two here, and those two there. Changed my !vote to match here.

  • Keep I agree with Peterkingiron, and I see no reason to delete small categories that may have scope for expansion. Our coverage is not complete. Dimadick (talk) 15:44, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there's much hope of expansion here, barring new archaeological discoveries. Rhodes isn't exactly the heart of classical antiquity... - car chasm (talk) 18:54, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 08:00, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCATs newly created for the same single person. As always, "Ambassadors of Country-X to Country-Y" categories are not automatically created the moment there's just one person to be filed in them -- since diplomats are not "inherently" notable but don't necessarily always have sufficient WP:GNG-worthy coverage to clear our actual inclusion standards for diplomats either, such categories are not necessarily always expandable. So dedicated X-to-Y categories are supposed to be created only when that combination describes at least five or six people, and if there's only one then he's just left in the appropriate "Ambassadors of X" and "Ambassadors to Y" parents.
With around 180 countries in the world, routinely categorizing every ambassador for their specific X-Y combo(s) would require the creation of 32,400 categories for every possible X-Y combo -- as well as leading to extreme category bloat, since ambassadors are often reassigned to more than one different country over the course of their careers and could thus need to be filed in five or six of these at the same time. So obsessively diffusing everything down to categories of one doesn't aid navigation at all. Bearcat (talk) 14:51, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Many siblings may be nominated as well. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:47, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge and delete — well reasoned.

  • Comment for UK we probably have a full set of categories. The Liechtenstein category should probably be deleted, since is is an additional role for the Swiss post, but we should be open in the long run to a wide set of diplomat categories. Category:Historic buildings and structures in South Africa
Nominator's rationale: No need for redirect from incorrect spellings.
William Allen Simpson (talk) 03:19, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:57, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/merge per nom. Place Clichy (talk) 18:16, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/merge doesn't quite get to speedy deletion with WP:R3 but feels similarly unlikely to help readers. - RevelationDirect (talk) 18:50, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge item 2 (leaving redirect), but the other is a cat-redirect, whose purpose is to prevent it being inadvertently re-created and populated. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:46, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
