Nominator's rationale: see the names in Category:Athletics by country Estopedist1 (talk) 20:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - it's Category:Athletics (track and field) in North America. Oculi (talk) 20:25, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral This naming was done on the basis that in Canadian English the term "athletics" may be understood as Athletics (physical culture) rather than sport of athletics. If the term is not ambiguous in Canadian English then I have no opposition to the rename as stated. The current rationale is non-relevant as this is an English variation issue (see Category:Track and field in the United States). SFB 20:25, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral/Leave Redirect if Renamed I'll defer to other (Canadian?) editors on the WP:ENGVAR issue. But if it's renamed, please leave the redirect so this doesn't just get recreated later . - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:58, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ping @Bearcat: Your CFD contributions are always appreciated and might be especially helpful here. - RevelationDirect (talk) 03:02, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bearcat the ping'd is going to have to go with the oppose on ENGVAR grounds option here, I'm afraid. Per Athletics (physical culture), "in the modern English language the term athletics has taken on two distinct meanings. Its meaning in American English broadly denotes human physical sports and their respective systems of training, the sense described in this article. The other, narrower principal meaning of the word comes from British English and variants within the British Commonwealth; this meaning of athletics refers solely to the concept of the sport of athletics (a category of sporting competition that comprises track and field sports and various forms of foot racing), rather than physical sport in general."
The challenge for Canada, of course, is that although we're a Commonwealth country that doesn't mean that we always align with Commonwealth usages in every Commonwealth-vs-US divergence: sometimes we do, sometimes (truck vs. lorry) we don't, and sometimes (DMY vs. MDY date formatting) we get both usages coexisting in a tug-of-war. This one falls under the tug-of-war banner: the national governing body for the sport is called Athletics Canada (where the American equivalent is called USA Track & Field), so the British usage clearly exists, but the word is also used in the more American sense, such as by U Sports (formerly the "Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union") and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, both of which include varsity team sports in their mandates. So where the US clearly uses "track and field" instead of "athletics", and most other countries clearly use "athletics" instead of "track and field", the Canadian category was stuck having to somehow juggle both usages, as I just don't see a terribly compelling argument that one usage can be clearly privileged over the other.
I am noticing a couple of other oddities in the tree, however: Category:Track and field in the United Kingdom, comprising a random sample of articles that are already in the Category:Athletics in the United Kingdom tree in other ways anyway? Category:Track and field in Canada separately existing as a subcategory of this? So there'll be some other things coming to CFD shortly.
That said, I would recommend creating the proposed rename as a redirect to the existing category to minimize any potential confusion, which is what I also intend to do with the "track and field" subcategory I mentioned above. Bearcat (talk) 14:22, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: delete, very minor office, the three people in the category weren't even first secretaries. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:03, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Each of the 3 are already well categorized in multiple, more defining politician categories. - RevelationDirect (talk) 03:08, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge, trivial intersection between ancient government officials and modern provinces. If kept, at least rename "politicians" to "government officials" per this earlier discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:35, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 12:47, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: It's not a listing by writer name or something, but a category tree by nationality. Note that I recategorized this to Category:Works by writer nationality as well. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 06:03, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose for now. You've actually created a pretty much duplicate category with Category:Films by screenwriter with a different naming convention. Renaming this is pretty much pointless as it would leave a single category in the new parent you created. Gonnym (talk) 16:08, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not redundant. See, e.g. Category:Albums by artist and Category:Albums by artist nationality. They are just two different schemes. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 06:54, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Albums by artist has categories other than by nationality. What other categories does this one have? Gonnym (talk) 07:03, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Opposing the rename does not seem to help to overcome this problem. The proposed name is still more accurate w.r.t. the category content. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:07, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCAWARD
Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation is a South Korean military unit award which is awarded to military units which participated in the Korean War and subsequent American military units within the United States Forces Korea. The award is not defining and is retroactively awarded to individuals who served in the military units rather than individually being awarded. Toadboy123 (talk) 04:04, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:PERFCAT, WP:OCAWARD & WP:NONDEFINING
The Royal Society of Chemistry hosts the Faraday Lectureship Prize and this category groups people who gave the talk. Speakers receive £5000, a medal and a certificate. This performance sure isn't treated as defining in the articles, generally getting a passing reference with other honours. The category contents are already listed right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:02, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 12:46, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT
The Royal Society of Chemistry is a prominent national British group that has 35 local chapters called "Local Sections". I have no conceptual objection to the category but we only have 1 article--South Wales West Local Section--and establishing notability for more will be challenging. (If I'm wrong and 5+ articles emerge, no objection to recreating this category later.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:02, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Merge per nom, and the notability of its only article is also questionable. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:48, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
