Nominator's rationale: Unhelpful for navigation to have only one person in here. I've already added them to the people murdered in mexico parent category. Mason (talk) 22:19, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: One page in cat. Think this cat can be deleted and the page switched to Category:History of Pyongyang toobigtokale (talk) 21:13, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for now, without objection to recreate the category when some more articles are available. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:42, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Major League Baseball books[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 21:03, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:OVERLAP. Also because I don't see another sports league-specific book category. Omnis Scientia (talk) 13:28, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, this defined and selective category is already a sub-category of Baseball books, and is a valid stand-alone categorization of baseball writing genre. Please notify the baseball wikiproject, thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:08, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree. This isn't a specific genre and none of them are about MLB specifically either. @Marcocapelle, @Aidan721, would you agree with this merger? Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:45, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge It's not clear that any of these books are "defined" by MLB. The category currently implies like the league officially sanctions them. SportingFlyer T·C 21:30, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • It may be too obvious that books about baseball are about Major League teams, if so that would be an argument for merging. However when other books are definitely not related to the Major League, that would be an argument for keeping. If kept, the title should at least be changed to e.g. Category:Books about Major League Baseball teams in order to avoid the impression that they are about the Major League Baseball as a whole, or even published by the Major League Baseball.l Any article that does not fit could be moved to the parent category. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:38, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle, the books in the category are mostly about players and/or the game itself. Not specifically about any team or MLB itself, other than maybe three or four. Most of them are biographies or autobiographies. But, as an avid reader of baseball books, I'd say majority are related to MLB in some way or another. Omnis Scientia (talk) 23:25, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak merge These books center mostly around teams and individuals that competed in Major League Baseball, not actually about the MLB. I don't think this category needs to be split from Category:Baseball books. –Aidan721 (talk) 22:55, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should they also be merged to Category:Major League Baseball mass media?--User:Namiba 23:31, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Books is media but not mass media. More importantly I would not dump 44 articles specifically about books in what is almost a container category, while these articles clearly share a more specific characteristic (namely that they are about books). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:38, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See mass media: includes books. PamD 06:34, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD, @Namiba, in this case they aren't directly related to MLB or sanctioned by MLB so doing so doesn't make sense. Also, as Marco notes, it is a matter of debate whether books are considered mass media. Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:52, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, the nominated category is already a subcategory of Category:Major League Baseball mass media. Perhaps, rather than the proposed merge, we should simple rename this existing category category:Books about Major League Baseball or Category:Books about baseball. Thoughts?--User:Namiba 14:07, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Namiba, hence why I chose the target cat as Category:Baseball books, of which the nominated category is a subcat as well. And again, these books aren't about MLB. Yeah it is a part of these books by default but the league isn't the defining part of them. Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:02, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Place Clichy, @Smasongarrison, pinging for some more opinions on this one. Note that no other sports league has such a category and these books aren't sanctioned by MLB nor is MLB the defining aspect of them. Omnis Scientia (talk) 11:41, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge. I don't think we need to add branding into the category name. Mason (talk) 20:18, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 21:04, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: "Youth EuroBasket" is the official name for this group of tournaments. The current category name is incorrect, because it looks like it deals with the senior category. For the senior category, see: Category:EuroBasket navigational boxes. Maiō T. (talk) 12:46, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This is an absolute failure of DEFINING. None of these games are defined by the fact that a magazine gave them a perfect score. -- ferret (talk) 18:42, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. A review score is not a defining trait for any piece of media. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:57, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:26, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Not a CATDEF, one magazine giving a perfect score. There are dozens, hundreds even, of magazines, websites and other media outlets that give out perfect scores. And a 10/10 is impressive, but as a category it's arbitrary. Might as well as go with a decent 6/10 score. Are the recently created Category:Zzap!64 Gold Medal Award winners and Category:C+VG Hit award winners similar enough to be lumped together in this discussion? soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:48, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely should add in other recent magazine categories. -- ferret (talk) 19:51, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - these awards are a major part of 80s videogame journalism. Per the article on Crash magazine, the awards were considered a big deal by the games industry. Before the internet, they were often a reason for a game's success. There were compilations of "Crash Smashes", and it wasn't unusual for the YS Megagame logo to literally appear on the game's front cover artwork. This just looks like another one of those Amerocentric attempts to wipe out anything not understood in the USA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.214.198 (talk) 20:58, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those damn Yanks, deleting categories! Ford cars, McDonald's hamburgers and now this! The American cultural hegemony continues unabated! ...You realise that deleting a category isn't deleting an article, right? soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 21:11, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We literally had exactly the same thing with categories about Christmas Number Ones. They all got wiped out. If a game's success isn't defined by sales or by awards, what the fuck is left?
Not sure how you can seriously assert this after multiple editors have voiced their opinion that any similar magazine awards should be deleted, and zero editors have cited it being a UK magazine being from the UK is the problem at hand. You're serving up a counterpoint to an argument no one made to begin with. Sergecross73 msg me 13:06, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Absolutely not defining. Delete any similar ones too. Sergecross73 msg me 19:58, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • CommentReminded User talk:92.15.214.198, the original requester. Noting that I have accepted the request on behalf of the ip at WP:AFC/C. Also, I don't understand by "CATDEF" and similar meanings. I have no idea why the category should be deleted? Toadette (Let's discuss together!) 21:06, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: I've stricken out the statement as ip voted before adding this. Toadette (Let's discuss together!) 21:12, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ToadetteEdit Not trying to be mean but if you don't know WP:CATDEF you shouldn't be accepting requests for categories at AFC/C. -- ferret (talk) 21:54, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Out of sequence overcat - this is the only category in the "Demolished buildings and structures by city*" which is a neighbourhood of a city. London and New York are each broken out by jurisdictions, not neighbourhoods. *now populated places for some bizarre reason, even though city is more concise, and the category only contains cities.
