Category:Griffith family[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 17:57, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is not a family, but multiple families. Patti D'Arbanville, Jesse Johnson and Noel Marshall are not related to Peter Griffith in any way. Steven Bauer, Don Johnson and Antonio Banderas were related to him at one time, but ceased being his sons-in-law when they divorced Melanie. If you were to remove these six people from the list, all that's left are two children, one ex-wife and one grandchild—not enough to warrant their own Category. Yours6700 (talk) 23:07, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 09:57, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've also proposed the Peter Griffith article for deletion. Yours6700 (talk) 20:22, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 17:58, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The team rebranded itself but it is the same club in the same building. Having two categories is unnecessary. User:Namiba 21:10, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Namiba, I'm assuming this is for merging Category:Maine Red Claws to Category:Maine Celtics, not renaming it, correct? If so, merge per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:01, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Category:Cleveland Indians seasons[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Cleveland Guardians seasons. No prejudice against further merges. (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:00, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per name change. User:Namiba 18:30, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per nom—we don't need two seasons categories for the same team. Most of the category was manually merged, so this would finish the job. To avoid potential confusion, it probably would be a good idea to retain Category:Cleveland Indians seasons as a category redirect. - Eureka Lott 19:04, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Umm... I don't know about this one because a lot of teams which moved have their own detailed trees, including seperate categories for seasons. But it differs from how drastic the move was (if that makes sense). @Muboshgu, @Spanneraol, @Yankees10, pinging from WP:Baseball for your take on this. Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:01, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I don't have an issue with multiple categories for teams that have relocated—but there was no move in this instance. It's the same team in the same city, just with a different name. - Eureka Lott 20:27, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EurekaLott, that is a fair point; also, just checked again and name changes while in the same city don't have their own categories. In that case, merge per nom. On the same note, I wonder if we should rename/merge the Category:Cleveland Indians and its subcategories. What do you think? Omnis Scientia (talk) 00:05, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would be in favor of merging the categories, but I expect that not everyone would agree. When a similar merge was proposed a decade ago, we were unable to obtain consensus. - Eureka Lott 00:24, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@EurekaLott, the team personel having seperate categories makes sense but at least Category:Cleveland Indians stadiums should be merged/renamed because the team is the same and its the same history in the end. But I can see why people would be against it and there are others similar categorizations. But the "season" one should go through. Its already mostly done anyways. Omnis Scientia (talk) 11:59, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Correct polity is the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, not modern Poland. Constantine 16:18, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom, or upmerge to the parent categories as there are only two articles here. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:57, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:ADD[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article is Agency for Defense Development. "ADD" is ambiguous, and redirects to Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, for which there is also a category. Peter James (talk) 14:13, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree I think it is better to change the name of the category to "Agency for Defense Development" for clarity of the category. Gasiseda (talk) 14:35, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • support To make the category more clear. --Lenticel (talk) 02:36, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Dem[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:20, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There is no Dem article so I'm not sure where this category belongs in the category hierarchy. Should it be deleted or merged somewhere else? Liz Read! Talk! 03:43, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete if only because it is a redudant category layer with only one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:32, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, looks like this was intended to be an article, and the edit to Category:Khatri surnames was an attempt to add this name to the list of names in the category, but with no references and not much content the page would be deleted or moved to Draft. There is an article Jamil Dem, but the subject is a German footballer of Senegalese descent. There is also Yeshey Dem, where the sort key is "Dem, Yeshey", but based on the template at the top of another Bhutanese person Dawa Dem and lack of sort key for Damchae Dem it's possibly not a surname. Peter James (talk) 14:34, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, yes indeed Peter, this category was clearly created in error. It was an attempt by the creator User:Ramit Dem to add their surname to the category Category:Khatri surnames, as indicated in their edit summaries.[1],[2]. See also my discussion with them at their talk page. --DB1729talk 15:45, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was just trying to update the list as it is not having my surname but if it will be deleted then how the information will be available on the web as there is no information available about my linage? Ramit Dem (talk) 15:08, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Ramit Dem: if your linage is a notable topic, you should first write an article about the topic, with reference to reliable sources. This is a forum for discussion about categories, not about articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:26, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Thanks for investigating this, fellow editors. The category is empty now so I guess this discussion can be closed after the appropriate time has passed. Liz Read! Talk! 17:36, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge as nominated with the exception of Category:Chilean prehistorians, which is a single merge to Category:Prehistorians. Categorization of its contents (Osvaldo Silva) can be further discussed at Talk:Osvaldo Silva, if desired. (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:23, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. Only one page in each of these categories, which isn't helpful for navigation. Not every nationality needs a category Mason (talk) 01:56, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge. Non-defining intersection per EGRS. I've already added everyone to a FOOian systems scientists category Mason (talk) 01:45, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 18:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining. This category is just about people who were born in the 1860s in the south. This is not a defining location. Mason (talk) 00:35, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 00:06, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
