Per MOS:FILM#Soundtrack, if a film article already has a theatrical poster similar to the soundtrack poster, then it already provides sufficient identification, and a soundtrack poster would be unnecessary and extraneous. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 02:06, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete The soundtrack image is exactly the same as the movie poster, thereby failing WP:NFCC#3a. Aspects (talk) 09:58, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Kept in Yves Tanguy. Use in the two articles do not meet NFCC#1/3a Peripitus (Talk)

File:Mama, Papa is Wounded!.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Justin Foote (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Fails WP:NFCC#1 in the articles History of painting and Western painting: the purpose is to show what surrealism paintings look like, but we have plenty of PD surrealism paintings which can be used instead, for example File:Murdering Airplane.jpg or File:Pedestal Table in the Studio.jpg. Also fails WP:NFG and WP:NFCC#3a in those two articles as it is used in a gallery and as the articles already have other surrealism paintings.

In the article Yves Tanguy, the image fails WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8 because there is already a different painting which already shows what the painter's art style is like, and because there isn't any critical discussion about any specific paintings. Stefan2 (talk) 23:02, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keep a major 20th century painter; his work is important and should be seen...Modernist (talk) 23:52, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Note that "his work is important and should be seen" isn't a valid reason to keep a non-free file; see WP:NFCC. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:32, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is no free equivalent; this image which is a major work by a major Surrealist painter should be kept. It does not fail WP:NFCC it's needed in all the articles in which it appears. In fact it's value is underscored by WP:NFCC#8 because it is understood in contrast to Ernst, Masson and Dali to name a few...Modernist (talk) 00:53, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Important or not, as the nominator already said, there are PD examples of surrealism and the artist's page already has a painting illustrating an example of his work. ALH (talk) 03:58, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Keep the suggested replacements are not similar. Stefan2 argues that "we have plenty of PD surrealism paintings which can be used instead, for example File:Murdering Airplane.jpg or File:Pedestal Table in the Studio.jpg." The three paintings may all fall under the heading of "surrealism" but they are very different. We serve our educational role by providing examples of different strains within an art movement. Bus stop (talk) 00:17, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is no critical discussion about the differences between those painting and this one, so the differences fail WP:NFCC#8. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:42, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So what you are saying is - more text is needed; why not just say that on the talk page?..Modernist (talk) 00:58, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention that WP:NFCC#8 says absolutely nothing about "critical discussion"[1]. Bus stop (talk) 01:26, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Delete Excessive nonfree on History and Western painting article, on Vyes, there is no contextual significance to meet NFCC#8; one example of a notable artist's work is appropriate without discussion.Keep SV's addition fixes context issue in Yves' article though other uses should be dropped. --MASEM (t) 15:02, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete unless Mama, Papa is Wounded! article can include artistic criticism of said piece that would justify use of fair use. Barney the barney barney (talk) 11:17, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • This is a basically absurd and naive demand. The painting is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and is one of Tanguy's most typical works and should be kept...Modernist (talk) 12:44, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I've added a paragraph about the painting, along with a source, so that the "subject of commentary" criterion is met. See the second paragraph in this section. SlimVirgin (talk) 21:53, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
