About this essay[edit]

This essay started out as part of the FA candidacy discussion for Introduction to general relativity, in which several participants had expressed strong objections-in-principle to a mere "Introduction to" article aspiring to Featured Article status. Many thanks to those editors who encouraged me to turn the text into the essay it has now become.

While everyone is, of course, welcome to contribute, it would certainly be counterproductive to continue the discussion in the form of an edit-war over this essay; rather, if you feel that Wikipedia should instead have one fixed target audience and contain articles only at an appropriate level for that audience (so that "Introduction to" articles become superfluous), you should consider starting your own essay setting forth that point of view. --Markus Poessel 06:41, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
