The following is an alphabetical index of decisions made at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Category | Decision | Discussion_log |
---|---|---|
Category:1905 Russian Revolution | Keep | January 31 |
Category:2Cellos | relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 7 | January 6 |
Category:Aboriginal Australian health | KEEP, or at least, keep as re-arrangd | January 16 |
Category:Accredited Naturopathic medical schools | RENAME to Category:Naturopathic medical schools accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education | January 11 |
Category:African-American Methodist preachers | REDIRECT to Category:African-American Methodist clergy. I interpret an evident consensus to rename in some manner, and the debate at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 January 16#Category:Methodist clergy by denomination has established as a matter of fact that in the US, the relevant authority appears to use the term "clergy", so given the more detailed work in that debate it seems sensible to use it also here | January 8 |
African-American women's basketball players | merge | January 19 |
Category:Albums produced by "Weird Al" Yankovic | Relisted at 2014 FEB 17 CFD | January 31 |
All unlistified listifications older than 60 days | NO ACTION. Thank you all for the feedback on the proposal, and we have arrived at a point which endorses the removal of the 60-day related sentence, so that there is no particular threshold after which the to-be-listified categories might be deleted. However, I would observe procedurally that normally the status quo is better not altered during a debate discussing it! Thanks also to BrownHairedGirl and DexDor for some heavy lifting this last week on the old listifications | January 30 |
Category:Alpine countries | result | January 25 |
Category:Alternative reproduction in fiction | delete Category:Alternative reproduction in fiction. |
January 6 |
Category:Alumni of St Cuthbert's College, Ushaw | merge and redirect. – | January 8 |
Category:Anglican church buildings converted from Roman Catholicism | MERGE to Category:Former Roman Catholic church buildings. This seems to be unlikely to be objected to by those deleters that remain, and is specifically agreed to by three of the people involved here. (In debates like this, where a new reasonable suggestion emerges, it would be useful if the people who are pinged do actually come back) | January 17 |
Category:Anti-Islam works | NO CONSENSUS. This debate is very unsatisfactory, I'm sorry. The nomination is conditioned on this being an attack category. There is a total absence of evidence for that, and no-one goes on to agree with the suggestion. I cannot find any suggestion that being placed in this category is intended to attack the subject. I would furthermore reject the nominator's later argument that being in a category on Wikipedia is a black mark against something - this seems far over-stated to me (excepting some possible BLP cases). I interpret Elaqueate's comment as not being in favour of deletion. Peterkingiron is suggesting that the possible rename mentioned in the nomination is possible, so this seems broadly neutral, but not clearly in favour of outright deletion. Therefore, in the round, I cannot construe this debate as having consensus to delete. A better argued case would be needed | January 16 |
Category:Anti-Muslim organizations | delete | January 16 |
Category:Appearance(s) made by Sam Sparro on a work that is not his own | DELETE | January 27 |
Category:Arab nationalists | NO CONSENSUS. The debate is evenly balanced by weight (even I interpret the merges as deletes), and the arguments to retain the structure as is with some improvement seems not to be satisfactorily refuted. So if something needs merging/deleting here, maybe a Wikiproject discussion can help | January 20 |
Category:Archaeological Sites of Great Importance | rename | January 22 |
Category:Articles created via the Article Wizard | RELIST. Although there seems no interest in keeping the category, I would like more agreement before deleting a category containing 33,000 articles | January 21 |
Category:Association football grounds | merge | January 18 |
Category:Association football midfielder | delete | January 6 |
Category:Association football stadiums | merge | January 18 |
Category:Assyrian Turkish writers | DELETE. I understand from below that the category has been shrunk by re-categorisation during the debate. There is only one article remaining, and it appears (to my inexpert eye) that it is adequately categorised even without this category for which there seems to be no support to retain. Therefore, I'm going to delete the category but note that the remaining article is Philoxenos Yuhanon Dolabani, so if anyone wants to check the cats of that, I'd be grateful | January 19 |
Australian soccer managers | KEEP ALL | January 27 |
Category:Ballets by Nikolai Roerich | merge | January 12 |
Category:Baptists in the United States | RENAME to Category:Baptist Christianity in the United States | January 5 |
Category:Beyoncé Knowles | speedy rename WP:C2D. – | January 27 |
Category:Black English sportspeople | Keep. This might better be stated as no consensus to delete. Personally I found the fact that there is no Black English people article troubling for the arguments here. But consensus is what it is. I will also add that this is one of three subcategories at this level of the tree. So if we were to delete this, probably all three need to be part of a single discussion | January 1 |
Category:Bobby V | delete | January 13 |
Category:Body swapping in fiction | keep. There was a clear consensus that this is a common trope in fantasy fiction, and is frequently defining to the works involved. The only editor to support the nomination was |
January 17 |
Category:Bon Voyage (band) albums | Delete | January 4 |
Category:Brain transplant in fiction | keep | January 17 |
Category:British Army World War I generals | rename all | January 8 |
Category:British printmaker stubs | NO CONSENSUS | January 22 |
Category:Brown Mackie Colleges | delete | January 30 |
Category:Buffyverse time travel stories | delete | January 9 |
Category:Buildings and structures in Pombal | MERGE to Category:Pombal Municipality and Category:Buildings and structures in Leiria District. If I understand correctly, this is probably OK with Vegaswikian, too | January 28 |
Category:Buildings and structures in the Marche | RENAME to ...le Marche without any other grammatical changes. I like Vegaswikian's way through for this. I have opted here for ...Le March because on reading the debate I find it being suggested and agreed to by a number of people, while no other suggestion gets really any traction. I do note that various (counter-)examples are given, but I give a lot of credence to the suggestion that, in fact, a number of similar category trees have not yet been correctly formulated and so we should not allow those potential mistakes to be propagated as precedents at this stage. Therefore, following Vegaswikian's suggestion, further research and discussion elsewhere (e.g. a Wikiproject) can hopefully finalise as to whether this new position needs improvement | January 4 |
Category:Burials in Graz | keep per WP:SMALLCAT as part of an established system of categorisation under Category:Burials by country and city. The category now contains 5 articles, so the initial concern about size may be less applicable. However, this closure is without prejudice to any wider proposal to delete or trim Category:Burials by place |
January 21 |
Category:Busitema University | delete | January 15 |
Category:Canadian city flags | speedy rename WP:C2C per convention of Category:Flags of cities by country | January 14 |
Categories on Philippine cities | rename all | January 10 |
Category Czech astronauts | no consensus. The only !voter supported the nomination, but the category was not tagged, so other editors were not notified. That means there can be no valid consensus | January 16 |
Category:Characters with supernatural abilities in professional wrestling | manually delete, after recategorising articles as needed | January 24 |
Category:Children of Holocaust survivors | NO CONSENSUS. I am going to keep my closure note relatively simple (for a change!). Clearly the weight of the debate is toward keeping. For me to nevertheless delete, the keeps would have to be seriously ill-founded in fact, policy, consistency, rebuttal, etc. But they obviously are not. Or, the deletes could have such a strong policy-based thread that it is nevertheless reasonable to import a wide-community consensus from the policy/policies into this debate and outweigh the keep side. That is not the case. On the other hand, the deleters' significant salient points relating to non-defining characteristic and non-inherited notability are very fairly argued, but not deconstructed enough to lead to a straight 'keep' outcome. We therefore have a case where the community has not sufficiently converged on a consensual outcome as to the disposition of this category, and we default to taking no action from this debate | January 25 |
Category:Chilodontidae stubs | relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 10 | January 31 |
Category:Christian clergy by denomination | keep (i.e. do not rename) | January 14 |
Club Championship Cats | relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 7 | January 6 |
CNBC women | Delete. I was going to upmerge, but since this is now empty | January 8 |
Category:Commissioners of Crete | RENAME to Category:High Commissioners of Crete | January 5 |
Category:Community settlements in Israel | RENAME to Category:Community settlements (Israel). The debate evidently concludes the parenthetical disambiguator is needed, and the article has been stable at the equivalent title | January 29 |
Category:Compilation Albums | delete | January 24 |
Conductors (music) | not renamed | January 16 |
Category:Confucianism in Indonesia | delete | January 28 |
Category:Congregationalist clergy | Rename all per nomination | January 11 |
Category:Counties and county equivalents of the United States with African American majority populations | DELETE. Analysis is overall as the debate above | January 23 |
Category:County Commissioners in York County, Maine | KEEP | January 5 |
Category:Cricket grounds in Asia | delete both | January 18 |
Category:Critical response to films | merge to Category:Film criticism | January 19 |
Category:Cuca (band) | relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 7 | January 6 |
Category:Cult related terms and concepts | delete | January 6 |
Category:Cycloalkene stubs | delete | January 22 |
Category:Czech astronauts | rename | January 31 |
Category:Dams in fiction | delete. If I may comment; dams in fiction MAY actually be a worthy category, IF there are any notable dams in fictional works. What this category is (was) however was fictional works that feature dams, and that's why it was busted | January 18 |
Category:Deadly Avenger albums | KEEP (I interpret both the comments thus, and respect the established consensus) | January 28 |
Deprecated | delete all. Nobody answered the nominator's call for evidence of any another template to populate these categories, so there is no reason to keep them | January 4 |
Category:Divided highways in the United States | delete | January 10 |
Early Commercial architecture | RENAME to Category:Buildings designated early commercial in the National Register of Historic Places. This is a difficult debate to handle, as there is evident consensus that the name as it stands is not at all suitable. The disagreement centres mostly on how to describe the things collected by the category - as architecture, buildings, designations, etc. I do not think that including the word 'architecture' is suitable from reading the debate, and the suggestion by Vegaswikian is closer to the facts of the matter, and also deals with the IP's fair point to do with the vague meaning of 'early commerical', but is not clear grammar. The linkage of Chicago to this does not appear to be supported without internal interpretation of the sources, i.e. original research in the Wikipedia sense. Therefore, I think the name I have taken here will provide a middle-ground through all the various proposals, and is straight-down-the-line of the narrowest fact of what's in the category. A slight liberty taken in expanding the acronym, as that is typically done in category names. If this outcome is considered entirely unsuitable, then I suggest that deletion should result from a logical conclusion that in such a case, there is no suitable name at all for the category, i.e. it should not exist | January 18 |
Category:Eminia | delete | January 16 |
Category:English-language unisex given names | NO CONSENSUS. The mixture of merge and delete, where these are expressed as non-overlapping, means that I cannot see a consensus around any outcome here. I think the best thing is to follow BrownHairedGirl's advice, and start with the parent categories, using that CfD as either an umbrella or a test case (probably the former) | January 16 |
Category:Estelle (musician) | delete | January 13 |
Category:Ethnic culture and history | relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 10 | January 30 |
Category:Examples of misuse of statistics | delete | January 25 |
Category:Family history television participants | delete all | January 20 |
Category:Fashion films | merge | January 24 |
Category:Female Anglican bishops | KEEP unchanged. There seems to be dissatisfaction with the close of the 26 Dec CfD in a similar way. It may necessary to re-nominate to achieve a fix and/or consistency. (A side note: I fully agree that the formulation proposed is grammatically incorrect (in at least British English), and should not really be supported whether it is consistent with some other category or not. Be careful of legislating blindly) | January 8 |
Category:Fictional Black Scottish people | MERGE to Category:Fictional Black British people and Category:Fictional Scottish people, and DELETE | January 8 |
Category:Fictional characters by sexual behavioral attribute | delete. There was a clear consensus to delete this combination of LGBT people and sex criminals. The discussion did not address how to categorise Category:Fictional people involved in incest, Category:Fictional pedophiles and Category:Fictional rapists, so I will recategorise them in Category:Fictional characters by behavioral attribute (which is a parent of the nominated category) | January 7 |
Category:Fictional characters with radiation abilities | delete | January 29 |
Category:Fictional intersex people | rename | January 19 |
Category:Fictional sexists | DELETE | January 11 |
Category:Fictional swordsmen | no consensus. There are two conflicting principles here. The first is that category names should follow the form of the head article, which in this case is swordsman; that principle supports the current name. The second principle, which supports renaming, is that per WP:NPOV, category names in Wikipedia should avoid gender marking in job titles when the category is intended to include both genders. One parent (Category:Swordsmen) follows the first principle, while the convention of Category:Fictional characters by occupation is predominantly gender-neutral. There was no consensus here on which of these valid principles to prefer, and the two previous CfDs give little guidance because they essentially contradict each other |
January 7 |
Category:Fictional | MERGE to Category:Fiction by topic. Clearly, there is consensus that the current name sucks. The suggestion by The Bushranger is probably the best that can be done, so that's what I'll implement. But note that this would not be a rename since the suggested target already exists - and looking through that category it does indeed appear to collect miscellaneous 'things in fiction'. The minor defect in this merge is the inconsistent naming of the contents of the Category:Fictional vs the consistent name "...in fiction" of the target - but those will have to be fixed separately, probably a set of speedy nominations is sufficient | January 21 |
Category:Film companies established in 1978 | MERGE to Category:companies established in 1978 | January 9 |
Films by country and year | Double upmerge all to year categories and nationality categories; delete first 2 | January 3 |
Category:Films set on an airplane | RENAME to Category:Films set on airplanes | January 9 |
Category:Flags of Indiana cities | speedy rename WP:C2C per convention of Category:Flags of cities by country and Category:Flags of cities in the United States | January 14 |
Category:Former named state highways in Oregon | Listify and delete | January 16 |
Category:French military firefighters | merge. Note that the second category's content is already in Category:Romanian firefighter personnel, a subcategory of Category:Firefighters, so it was only merged to the second target | January 25 |
Category:Globalization legislation | delete | January 23 |
Category:Good Riddance | DELETE | January 10 |
Category:Greek cuisine dolmas and sarmas | RELIST is the only thing I can think of here. I feel that a consensus may emerge with more discussion | January 14 |
Group or groups discographies | RENAME to plurals as nominated. This is rather a thin debate for its purpose, and I agree with the analysis by LazyBastardGuy (the singular is much better to my British English tongue). Each discography belongs to a single group, and the plural form has not been made possessive, so the singular is right | January 16 |
Category:Guided missiles by conflict | RENAME ALL as per nomination | January 25 |
Category:Hameaux in France | MERGE to Category:Villages in France. However, the subcategories have not been tagged, so it would cause procedural headaches if I applied this outcome also - even though it should be obvious. The nominator will need to either full-CfD or speedy-rename CfD the subcategories as the judge is needed | January 20 |
Category:Hardcore Punk from the United States | upmerge | January 31 |
Category:Historians without doctoral training | DELETE | January 12 |
Category:Holly Brook albums | RELISTED. To check that this is indeed not the situation identified in the nomination | January 22 |
Category:Hylidae stubs | RENAME to Category:Tree frog stubs. Please also see the related debate linked below. This is a tricky pair of debates. Reading the other one, I see that we would be making a scientific error in re-categorising some things as hylidae when they are not. There are also two suggestions in the other debate (and one here) that perhaps a dual tree is needed here. I have concluded that the other debate cannot be concluded as having consensus for the proposed rename. However, some degree of consistency is needed. Following largely on the scientific principle, I will move this related stub cat to the same name. However, in both cases I will also allow that this might need re-visiting if some dual-tree structure is created, and/or the articles are split and pruned better | January 15 |
Iceland youth international footballers | merge both | January 6 |
Category:Indian Debutant Directors | Delete | January 4 |
Category:Indian lunar exploration program | Rename | January 2 |
Category:Indian soups | merge | January 15 |
Indian Territory | KEEP ALL as is | January 28 |
Category:Introduced amphibians of Hawaii | LISTIFY and DELETE | January 25 |
Category:Introduced saltwater fish | delete | January 17 |
Category:Introduced species | NO ACTION. There is no need, nor authority, for CfD to 'authorise' the creation of a category. The passage of seven years since the original CfD and five years since the creation of this version of the category page means that, since consensus can change, it is not necessary to view a CfD from 2007 as legislation. What we have instead is a category created, populated, used and not facing even a nomination for deletion. Therefore, the prevailing consensus is that the category remains | January 26 |
Category:Island rivers of Oceania | REDIRECT to Category:River islands of Oceania | January 5 |
Category:Islands in lakes | REDIRECT to Category:Lake islands. This is a tricky debate. However, Grutness argues the case very well indeed and there is slightly greater weight of presence to rename. I also take into serious account the title of the relevant main article and the structure of the rest of the category tree as further indications of a wider established consensus as to how this type of category should be treated | January 7 |
Category:Islands of Central Java | KEEP | January 9 |
Category:Israeli engineer stubs | KEEP | January 22 |
Category:Jahrom County geography stubs | Withdrawn - I made the nomination when there was no obvious population for the category. Since then, Carlossuarez46 has succeeded in populating it | January 23 |
Category:JavaScript Libraries | delete Category:JavaScript Libraries, which is the only still remaining. I don't know whether the other categories had already been tagged for this discussion, but they had already been speedy deleted | January 3 |
Category:Jimmy Savile | NO CONSENSUS. Most of the debate here is useful. In particular, since a strong policy is cited in the nomination, I conclude that WP:BLPCRIME does not apply to this category because (1) it is more than two years since the subject's death and (2) none of (a) the category name; nor (b) the category page; imply a crime. Even the main eponymous article is not accusing in any way that might be libellous (to the deceased's family and/or friends), but the article is out of scope here anyway. I tend to find the arguments to do with 'too small' to be have been refuted on the facts, and the complaints of inappropriate content are not very believable as they are stated, since it is not explained why shows he presented as a key feature are somehow not relevant (and I do agree that removing articles during the CfD was not the best move). So, in summary, on both numbers and strength of argument, there is no consensus to delete this category | January 19 |
Category:Judicial branch of Colombia | rename | January 31 |
Category:Judicial branch of the Singapore Government | not renamed. No prejudice against a renomination that involves renaming the rest of the tree | January 31 |
Category:Juice drink brands | RENAME to Category:Juice brands | January 10 |
Category:Kōji Seo | delete | January 16 |
Category:Landforms of Karo Regency | delete. – | January 8 |
Category:Languages of Bicol | merge to all parents. Note that subcategory Category:Bikol languages is already in a subcat of Category:Languages of the Philippines and was thus not upmerged there | January 31 |
Category:Latin words found in species names | delete | January 19 |
Category:Liberal organisations | NO CONSENSUS, largely as aligned with the debate just above | January 13 |
Category:Liberal parties in the United States | Non-admin closure of duplicate discussion. See December 29 for discussion still open | January 2 |
Category:Liberal parties | NO CONSENSUS. I think the basic point behind the keepers' arguments is that it matters not so much that the word has had different meanings over time, because it has an understood meaning at the present time (and could of course be changed in decades to come if needed) | January 13 |
Category:List of Kapus | listify and delete | January 6 |
Category:Lists of Billboard Hot Digital Songs number-one songs | RELISTED today | January 9 |
Category:Lists of Numb3rs episodes | rename to Category:Lists of Numbers (TV series) episodes . – | January 14 |
Category:Lists of scientists known for opposing a mainstream scientific assessment | merge to Category:Lists of scientists | January 13 |
Category:Live Music Archive artists | DELETE.(PS I forgot to add the closing tags earlier) | January 27 |
Category:Magnates, moguls, and tycoons of the world | DELETE | January 5 |
Category:Male Western (genre) film actors | withdrawn by nominator, both here and on my talk | January 8 |
Manchester Metrolink stations | merge all (and already done) | January 29 |
Category:María Isabel | delete | January 30 |
Category:Media affected by the Columbine High School Massacre | delete | January 19 |
Category:Medieval Iraqi people | no consensus. The underlying question here is the geographical categorisation of historical events in areas of shifting political boundaries, when political boundaries frame the primary geographic categories. This is a perennial question, in which a broad consensus seems to have been reached in some types of case. For example, some editors noted here how there has been a consensus to create this sort of category for a country with a long history, even when it was is not a state (let alone a sovereign state) in the relevant era. There does not appear to be a broader consensus on how to handle situations where the notion of a historical country is weaker. In some cases (such as eastern Europe), editors have been happy to accept some anachronism in order to gain the navigational benefits of a category, but in other cases they have not. One possibility is to regard such a category as having an explicit anachronism, by describing it (whether in its title or in an explanatory note) as "[name of era] in the area now covered by the country known as Foo" (in this case "Medieval people from the area now known as Iraq", but editors divided sharply on whether to apply that approach in this case. This perennial problem would benefit from a centralised discussion |
January 3 |
Category:Methodist clergy by denomination | January 16 | |
Category:Mid-level medical practitioners | DELETE | January 11 |
Category:Military occupations | I do give some weight to the comments by Seyasirt, and agree that 'differently bad' is not good enough. Also, DexDor is correct as to the usual use of the category name towards content rather than meaning. For that reason, it is tempting to declare no consensus and force the debate to continue until some way forward somewhere is found, no matter how narrow. However, I think we can do better than that this time. This time, there is evident consensus to do something, and indeed most people are fine with the nomination, so the question is: what, if anything, can be seen as an all-round agreeable outcome from this debate as to precise naming given the genuine and reasonable concerns raised? Therefore, I will assume that the early commenters are in probability likely to be OK with a renaming that is close enough to the nomination, even though not identical. I observe that the nominator has some agreement with those who disagree with the original proposal, and makes a proposal close to the two dissenting editors' suggestions but which has the benefit of providing ENGVAR flexibility built-in for the potential subcats. Thus, I conclude to RENAME ALL per Fayenatic london's suggestion, that being as follows: | January 27 |
Category:Mongolian dynasties | rename to Category:Mongol dynasties | January 14 |
Category:Montenegrin Chetniks | RELIST at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 February 5. I have repopulated the category from Special:Contributions/Peacemaker67 | January 23 |
Category:Multimedia University Engineering Society Overseas Research Programme | rename | January 29 |
Category:Murdered Persian monarchs | NO CONSENSUS. There is no convergence to one outcome here, but perhaps Peterkingiron's suggestion is worth trying out in a Wikiproject | January 16 |
Category:Musicals with Nazi characters | delete | January 23 |
Category:National parks of Canada by province or territory | rename all | January 4 |
Category:Nigerian women physicians | RENAME to Category:Nigerian women medical doctors. However, Roscelese has a fair point about the status of a very old CfD. Whilst it is not invalidated by the passage of time, it is important to remember that we are not writing legislation here. [[[WP:CCC|Consensus can change]], especially over a time span of five years | January 23 |
Category:Nine Old Men | delete and salt | January 9 |
Category:Noble families by nationality | KEEP. This debate conclusively establishes a consensus to retain this category, so I hope this is an end to the matter | January 13 |
Category:Northern Irish cheeses | REDIRECT to Category:Cheeses from Northern Ireland. However, no protection should result from this, because we should definitely not get into a sort of legislative mind-set in deletion processes. Consensus can change, and so it may be necessary to reconsider this in future. A soft redirect away to the new title should help a lot (maybe!) so I'll add one of those | January 15 |
Category:Numb3rs characters | rename to Category:Numbers (TV series) characters . – | January 14 |
Category:Numb3rs episodes | rename to Category:Numbers (TV series) episodes . – | January 14 |
Category:Nursing boards in the United States | rename to Category:Boards of nursing in the United States | January 9 |
Category:Obstacles | delete | January 25 |
Category:Olympic athletes who wrestled professionally | NO CONSENSUS. A finely balanced debate, but not evidently a consensus to delete, and there does seem something of a special case here given the particular nature of professional wrestling vs. professional [other sports]. However, there is some potential for confusion identified in the naming due to 'athletes' when that was not really the intended intersect, and indeed that appears to be the source of at least one delete. Therefore, I will rename this to Category:Professional wrestlers who competed in the Olympics | January 8 |
Category:Orphan Indication | delete | January 20 |
Category:Paris Métro stations in 15th arrondissement of Paris | speedy merge Category:Paris Métro stations in 15th arrondissement of Paris to Category:Paris Métro stations in the 15th arrondissement of Paris — WP:C2C per convention of Category:Paris Métro stations by arrondissement or municipality | January 12 |
Category:Pentecostal clergy | rename | January 16 |
Category:People convicted of ABH | RENAME to Category:People convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. I have thought carefully about this and concluded that there does seem to be a consensus to improve the name of the category because of the acronym, but that how to do so is a complex matter needing discussion. (On that, I interpret Jim Michael as being content to expand the acronym at the least). Happily, the evidently expert James500 provides very detailed explanation that only expanding the acronym would not produce a legally good name, i.e. it would unclearly combine (at least) two separate offences. Therefore the most accurate way forward appears to be this. As a side note, I find no consensus for deletion nor upmerging | January 13 |
Category:People executed by France by hanging, drawing and quartering | merge to Category:People executed by France. If further scrutiny reveals that any of the 4 articles currently in the category (Robert-François Damiens, Joseph Boniface de La Môle, Jean de Poltrot, François Ravaillac) belonmg in more specific subcats, they may of course be recategorised through normal dirorial processes | January 8 |
Category:People from Asby, Eden | MERGE to Category:People from Eden (district) and soft redirect | January 9 |
Category:People from Baldwin, Maine | KEEP. Orlady in particular makes a strong keeping argument which is not effectively challenged, and it is important to note the large number of other similar categories which have not been objected to. Given the background of numerous acceptance of them in Category:People from Cumberland County, Maine, I do not think I can construe this debate as establishing a consensus to remove one particular example. However, I would view this outcome as without prejudice to a wider re-consideration of the granularity of this overall set of categories, so that this particular example might be revisited | January 8 |
Category:People from Davao | merge | January 24 |
Category:People from Mount Oliver, Pennsylvania | merge | January 6 |
Category:People from Naples, Maine | MERGE as nominator' | January 5 |
Category:People from Petersburg, Pennsylvania | merge | January 29 |
Category:People from Venice (city) | there appears to be a slight consensus and better arguments to keep | January 3 |
Category:People in Voice over IP | result | January 20 |
Category:People who have been homeschooled | DELETE. There is consensus that this is not a defining feature. Possibly, there is scope for something on this direction, but evidently not this | January 12 |
Category:Persian noble families | not renamed | January 16 |
Personifications of death in fiction | NO CONSENSUS, but there does seem to be general discomfort with the name of category | January 4 |
Category:Pet amphibians | speedy delete. This is just housekeeping after Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2013 December 29#Category:Pet_amphibians_.28etc.29 | January 22 |
Category:Pet reptiles | merge | January 22 |
Category:Pet Turtles | delete | January 18 |
Category:Philosophical films | delete | January 17 |
Category:Philosophy disambiguation | delete | January 29 |
Category:Pink Martini | DELETE | January 12 |
Category:Pombal | speedy rename per C2B and C2D | January 28 |
Category:Populated places in the United States with Asian American majority populations | DELETE BOTH. The deletion arguments are much stronger than the keeps especially as to arbitrary and transitory. As to one of the keep reasons, I do not think we can try to judge the mind of the US Congress nor interpret US law ourselves without conducting (Wikipedia) original research so those theories are out of scope | January 23 |
Category:Populated places in the United States with Middle Eastern plurality populations | DELETE | January 23 |
Category:Progress templates | Speedy deletion. — | January 25 |
Category:Propaganda in fiction | NO CONSENSUS. The point made by Player017 is particularly pertinent on the opposing side | January 24 |
Pseudohistorians | NO CONSENSUS to delete. Probably the 'misuse' issue is best handled by pruning in this case. It is harder to handle the 'your pseudohistory is my history' problem, but perhaps this indicates in the direction of a considered rename if criteria for a suitable name can be established. In any case, neither problem warrants outright deletion in consideration of the weight balance of the debate | January 25 |
Category:Publications by company | merge | January 29 |
Category:Quaker academics | DELETE | January 13 |

Category:Recipients of the Order of Duke Branimir (Croatia) | MERGE and DELETE. It would not be appropriate to delete a non-tagged, non-nominated, recently not-deleted category via this discussion, and it is much cleaner and less complicated to do that properly (less headache all round). For clarity, however, I do not find this debate to have reached a consensus to delete the proposed merge target also; since things there are balanced pretty evenly between retaining it as a merge target and deleting it entirely | January 17 |

Category:Schweisser albums | KEEP, or follow Jerry's advice | January 11 |
Category:Separation barriers | NO CONSENSUS to merge as nominated. There are various potential ways forward suggested. The final one, which covers a wider restructuring, could probably be handled best by editorial work elsewhere, eventually returning to CfD for cleanup | January 25 |

Category:Terms for males | NO CONSENSUS. Probably best is to follow something along the lines of DexDor's suggestion to improve the categorisation of the articles such that these categories become naturally unnnecessary | January 25 |

Category:Tree frogs | KEEP. This is a tricky pair of debates. Reading this one, I see that we would be making a scientific error in re-categorising some things as hylidae when they are not. There are also two suggestions that perhaps a dual tree is needed here. Therefore, I think this debate cannot be concluded as having consensus for the proposed rename. However, some degree of consistency is needed. Following largely on the scientific principle, I will move the related stub cat to the same name. However, in both cases I will also allow that this might need re-visiting if some dual-tree structure is created, and/or the articles are split and pruned better | January 19 |
