Category:Former ViacomCBS subsidiaries[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split. MER-C 19:46, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Considering that ViacomCBS has only existed as a company under that name since today, it's a bit premature and misleading to suggest that it — as opposed to the predecessor Viacom and CBS Corporation entities — truly has its own "former subsidiaries" yet. (Undoubtedly it eventually will, but we can't say for sure yet, so it's probably too soon for a category by this name.) WCQuidditch 21:59, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Endorse split However the category creator managed to rename this category, the newer company has no former companies, and the entire move was malformed; all the category residents should be moved back to where they were before Tuesday (and future major media corporate mergers like this should have protection applied to articles and categories until they close; having to deal with this over the last five months has been a major pain). Nate (chatter) 02:03, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split per nom The category does not reflect the history of these subsidiaries. Dimadick (talk) 10:40, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split per nom The company formed a day ago. It does not reflect the history of its predecessors. There is no reason for this category to exist at the moment. Protection for future mergers like this should be implemented. HurricaneGeek2002 talk 12:53, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Aquatic animals of Africa[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: do not merge. MER-C 19:43, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category (which was created by a now blocked editor) is a one-off (there are no corresponding categories for other continents)  and is unnecessary (it contains just 2 subcats).  Deleting this category would make the category structure simpler and more consistent.  Note: No upmerge to Category:Aquatic animals is necessary as the 2 subcats are already in that by a different route. Note: There is a similar category (again containing just 2 subcats) for Oceania. DexDor (talk) 21:18, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep If it were a "one-off" there would be no Oceania category. Also, the editor was blocked four years after these categories were made, for reasons completely unconnected with this category (which has been in active use since 2014!) As for having only two subcats, that's hardly a deletable offence (and both now have four subcats anyway). A change of name to Category:Aquatic fauna of Africa might be appropriate, however. Grutness...wha? 00:07, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Useful category. We need similar ones for the other continents. Dimadick (talk) 10:41, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Grutness. As for renaming, Category:Aquatic animals is part of Category:Animals by adaptation, so it does not seem necessary to use "fauna". – Fayenatic London 11:06, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Makes sense. I'm happy with it staying at "animals". Grutness...wha? 13:32, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. The TFD was closed as delete. MER-C 10:18, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The Arena Football League has folded, once these "current roster" templates are deleted this category will be empty and no longer usable. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:19, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 19:47, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary category (one parent and one member). See related discussions such as Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2019_July_20#Category:Syrian_Civil_War_weapons. DexDor (talk) 17:23, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Superheroes[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: do not merge. MER-C 19:45, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Only one category is needed for this as it is unclear what superheroes Category some superheroes might fall under, so I think a merge might be a good option. Davidgoodheart (talk) 05:05, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - the nominated category is huge and the suggested upmerge will overwhelm the target, which at present is admirably subcatted via the scheme Category:Superheroes by type amongst others. Oculi (talk) 08:50, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Oculi: For me it seems unclear what Category a superhero like He-Man would fall under, as well as many others as well. That is why I suggested the merge. Davidgoodheart (talk) 11:15, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep An easy way to search for extraterrestrial characters. They are relatively commonplace in superhero fiction: Kryptonians, Martians, Thanagarians, Tamaranians, Shi'ar, Kree, Skrull, etc. Dimadick (talk) 10:44, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dimadick:, perhaps you are right. I might remove this if you we can remove people from Extraterrestrial superheroes like He-Man and She-Ra who clearly weren't extraterrestrial as well as others who weren't as well. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:13, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comments He-Man's adventures take place on planet "Eternia", though in the original television series him mother was "revealed" to be a human from Earth. She-Ra's adventures take place on planet "Etheria". Dimadick (talk) 21:21, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Oculi. --GentlemanGhost (séance) 14:33, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 09:59, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Only one article. TTN (talk) 01:32, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just delete, The Dark Tower is not a defining characteristic of this one article. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:47, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Marcocapelle. – Fayenatic London 16:28, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
