Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT Editor2020 (talk) 22:39, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Has the nominator actually read SMALLCAT? DexDor (talk) 07:30, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the nom brings this every few years (and still hasn't read WP:SMALLCAT to the end). Oculi (talk) 22:58, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, diffusing popes by nationality is not meaningful because the large amount of them are of the same nationality (Italian). We can suffice with List of popes by country. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:04, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Repetitive nominations of the same category are disruptive. Dimadick (talk) 21:10, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose It makes sense to have categories by nationality for popes, either for remote eras (French, Greek, Syrian popes etc.) or for recent eras (Polish, German, Argentine popes). The fact that popes where exclusively Italian during several centuries is only a "short" period in the history of the Papacy. Therefore SMALLCAT does not apply. Place Clichy (talk) 10:16, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- This is such a distinction that small category should not apply. We have allowed Nobel Prize winners on a similar basis, though some are very small. Italian popes might be so well populated as not to be useful, but the rest should be kept. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:57, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. SMALLCAT explicitly states that small categories are permitted if, in its exact words, "such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme". Subcategorization of popes by nationality is such a scheme — every single pope, with zero exceptions for any reason, must be reflected in the Category:Popes by nationality tree. It's certainly possible to have a different opinion on the matter of whether popes should actually be subcategorized by nationality at all, but there's no place for "some popes get subcats by nationality and some don't, depending on their country having supplied some arbitrary >1 number of popes" — either every pope gets a popes-by-nationality category or none do, because the parent category must unequivocally include every pope who ever poped. If you wanted to batch-nominate the whole tree on the grounds that subcategorizing them by nationality at all is not warranted, then I might support that depending on the strength of your argument — but as long as the "popes by nationality" tree remains in place, JP2 still has to be reflected in it whether there've been any other Polish popes or not. Nominator's rationale: Slightly wider scope. Most of the articles are not about dermatology societies and there arent enough to justify two separate categories. Rathfelder (talk) 08:32, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
