November 1[edit]

Category:Ketchikan Television[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:59, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category for nonexistent article. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 22:34, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete for Now The lack of a main article means the defining-ness of the category is unclear and this only contains 3 currently owned stations (and 3 formerly owned ones) so likely WP:SMALLCAT. RevelationDirect (talk) 09:36, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Category:International Mountain Bicycling Association epic rides[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:53, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining, WP:OC#AWARD. Note: Could be listified, but articles such as Tahoe Rim Trail don't mention this in the text. DexDor (talk) 17:10, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Per WP:OCVENUE. Having a group ride on a trail, or a company picnic at a park, or a concern at a stadium don't define the venues. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:08, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, these articles belong (and already are) in a parks category or a trails category. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:03, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Category:Paintings in the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 10:46, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article for the location is Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:27, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Undiscussed move in 2006 - article should go back. Johnbod (talk) 11:22, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • General comment - whatever the outcome of these proposals, some uniformity of "Paintings in/of Foo" would be a good thing. Grutness...wha? 04:55, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 14:34, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename Stability in naming for 14 years is pretty compelling, even if the rename was originally bold. If the article is ever renamed through an RM then, by all means, change the category again to match per WP:C2D. RevelationDirect (talk) 19:49, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom To match the name of the main article. Dimadick (talk) 19:56, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom - per RevelationDirect. Oculi (talk) 20:29, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Paintings in the Museum of Fine Arts of Nancy. – Fayenatic London 10:47, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article for the location is Museum of Fine Arts of Nancy. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:29, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 14:34, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename for Now with "in" The correct venue for a change to the name of the main article is on the talk page of that article not in CFD. If the main article is renamed in the future then, by all means, do a speedy rename per WP:C2D. RevelationDirect (talk) 19:51, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom To match the name of the main article. Dimadick (talk) 19:57, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Wikipedians interested in automobiles[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename/merge as nominated. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:55, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Other categories have used "cars" since Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 October 10#Category:Automobiles. Merge the second one because "interested in" is the current naming convention rather than "enthusiasts" etc, at least within the parent Category:Wikipedians interested in transportation. – Fayenatic London 08:52, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question, interested in automobiles, doesn't that imply interested in cars of a certain age? Marcocapelle (talk) 06:01, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. – Fayenatic London 17:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT, only one article in this category and History of Khuzestan Province does not mention any additional candidates. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:40, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 14:34, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for Now Per WP:SMALLCAT with no objection to recreating later if the article count exceeds expectations and gets up to around 5 articles. RevelationDirect (talk) 19:53, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 20:09, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT with just a single template. —andrybak (talk) 16:44, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

Category:Never Say Die Records artists[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:58, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: We do not have an article for Never Say Die Records. It does not make sense to have a category for artists associated with the label right now. Jalen Folf (talk) 18:15, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 14:34, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete for Now I went through the articles and about half mention the label and about half don't. No objection to recreating later when we have main article to better ground the category and establish the defining-ness. RevelationDirect (talk) 20:01, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete There seems to be no main article for the company or a list for its artists. So the categorization has no sources. Dimadick (talk) 20:00, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Category:Bollywood lists of awards and nominations[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split into Category:Lists of accolades by Indian film and Category:Lists of awards received by Indian actor. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:59, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: "Bollywood lists" seems a little odd to describe the content of this category, its not a Bollywood listing of awards, but a category for lists of accolades recived by Bollywood films. To keep it in line with the parent category I think it would be best to change it to Category:Lists of accolades by Indian film. ★Trekker (talk) 12:01, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Armenian resistance[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Armenian resistance during the Armenian Genocide and merge contents to Category:Armenian national liberation movement. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:04, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: change somehow, as the current name is too vague. The original speedy proposal to rename to Category:Armenian resistance during the Armenian Genocide is no longer relevant, since the target has meanwhile been created as a subcategory. Some other options: rename e.g. to Category:Armenian national liberation movement or merge to Category:Rebellions in Armenia which has meanwhile been nominated for renaming to Category:Armenian rebellions in the Ottoman Empire. • Support seems sensible. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:22, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The nomination does not include any sources which use this name. Wikipedia should not be inventing terms. Dimadick (talk) 20:03, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: dual merge. MER-C 20:10, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: These categories only have two articles in them. ―Susmuffin Talk 03:06, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional shoemakers[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Fiction about shoemakers.– Fayenatic London 18:01, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Of the 23 entries, 21 are fictional works (largely films, but also short stories and books) about shoemakers, one is a redirect to a section about a fictional shoemaker, and one (The Cobbler of Ordis) is a fictional shoemaker; it's arguable that the one work about a character should be instead about the novel it is from. "Fictional works about shoemakers" seems to more appropriately describe the contents of the category. power~enwiki (π, ν) 03:00, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Prix Cazes winners[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:58, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCAWARD and WP:SMALLCAT
The Brasserie Lipp restaurant in Paris gives an annual Prix Cazes award, "a literary prize awarded each year to an author who has won no other literary prize." I would have suspected this would have been defining to these relatively obscure writers and yet the articles in the category are about evenly split between those that mention the award in passing and those that don't mention it at all. Jean Prasteau's article is the only one that shows any gratitude and mentions the award in the lede. This is one of many French literary award categories created in late 2016/early 2017 and the contents are already listified here in the restaurant article for any reader interested in the topic. (The parent category contains only one redirect with no growth potential.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:30, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Jawaharlal Nehru Award winners[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:58, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCAWARD
The Jawaharlal Nehru Award is an Indian award given internationally for "contribution to the promotion of international understanding, goodwill and friendship among people of the world." I suspect the reason the category has never really been populated is because it doesn't come close to being defining for Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Yasser Arafat, or Angela Merkel. The contents are already listified here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:30, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Listify then delete as usual with WP:OCAWARD cases. Or just plain delete. Almost without exception the prize merely recognises notability, not confers it. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:32, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 20:09, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
