The result of the discussion was: Merge Timrollpickering (talk) 09:12, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Only one university or college in most of these Oblasts, apart from Kiev itself, which is not nominated. This is to be taken with yesterday's proposals for Category:Universities and colleges in Ukraine by location Rathfelder (talk) 21:43, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ukrainian medical doctors[edit]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus, but there is no rationale for the status quo, so this close is no bar to a further nomination. – Fayenatic London 17:55, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To align with parent Category:Physicians by nationality and the subcategories Category:Ukrainian women physicians, Category:Ukrainian physicians by century and Category:20th-century Ukrainian physicians. While "medical doctors" is the term used in many English-speaking and British or ex-British countries, this does not apply to the Ukraine. Physician is a much older term than medical doctor, and we have built an enormous category tree on it. We cant use the term doctor because it is ambiguous. Neither "Medical doctors" nor "physician" is a Ukrainian word. Rathfelder (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That decision was perverse. There is no reason for Ukraine to be treated differently than other European countries. There is a perfectly proper reason for treating places differently where "physician" has a more specialised meaning, but that does not apply here. It would be perfectly logical to use the term "medical doctors" universally, but as that has not been proposed why is it used here?Rathfelder (talk) 16:55, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. "Medical doctors" is more known term in all post-Soviet states than "physicians". 178.92.145.146 (talk) 13:19, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can you produce any evidence of this? If so we should change all the other states and subcategories in line. Rathfelder (talk) 14:20, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose -- This is an ENGVAR issue. In UK "physician" is a hospital specialty. The nom's complaint will be better resolved by renaming the sub-cats to match the present parent. The general term is doctor, which covers a wide variety of medics. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:39, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • MOS:ENGVAR applies in places where English is the language. "Physician" is not used in the British sense in Ukraine. There is no reason to treat Ukraine differently from Poland, Latvia or Hungary. If someone wants to propose changing all the other doctor categories that is fine by me, but treating Ukraine separately makes no sense.  Rathfelder (talk) 22:45, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename. "Physicians" seems to be the default in categorization, so unless there is some reason to prefer "medical doctors" in Ukraine, it should be "physicians". I haven't seen any such reasons provided here. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:26, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • In these articles the subjects are sometimes described as physicians and sometimes as doctors. I see no evidence that the term "Medical doctors" is commonly used in Ukraine. Rathfelder (talk) 21:09, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Commons cat is Physicians from Ukraine.Rathfelder (talk) 16:26, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename If there was clear evidence of different usage in Ukraine I would be open to an exception in the spirit of WP:ENGVAR but I have not seen any. RevelationDirect (talk) 23:55, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale:By discussion regarding Heraldic clan where consensus was reached to name "Heraldic clan" instead of "Heraldic family" and therefore, following consensus, category "Polish heraldic families" should be moved to "Polish heraldic clans" Camdan (talk) 14:21, 20 September 2020 (UTC) started on behalf of the user by User:Synoman Barris [reply]

Propose renaming:
Nominator's rationale. To align with the "YYYY in CountryAdjectve sport" convention of the subcats of Category:Sports by country and year: Burkinabé is the adjectival form of Burkina Faso (see List of adjectival and demonymic forms for countries and nations; for examples of its usage see e.g. Category:Burkinabé law and Category:Burkinabé culture).

Nominator's rationale: rename to align with article Explorers Program. After capitalization the disambiguator is probably less necessary. The nomination was opposed as speedy.

Category:Suburbs of Brisbane[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Suburbs of the City of Brisbane. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:42, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The category groups only the suburbs of City of Brisbane (one of 8 administrative units form metropolis of Brisbane). Category not groups suburbs of other administrative units of metropolis of Brisbane, other administrative units have their own categories - for example: Category:Suburbs of Logan City, Category:Suburbs of Redland City, Category:Suburbs of Moreton Bay Region (see also: List of Brisbane suburbs). Brisbane (metropolis covered 8 administrative units) is not the same than City of Brisbane (part of Brisbane metropolis, one of 8 administrative units). Current name of category incorrectly suggests that it concerns a metropolis of Brisbane, but the category concerns just a part of this metropolis - City of Brisbane. So, current category name is wrong and misleading. Subtropical-man ( | en-2) 00:33, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

rename to Category:Suburbs of the City of Brisbane, per normal usage. Grutness...wha? 03:25, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question. Is anyone able to translate the nomination into English? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:58, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My English is weak and the topic is complicated due to the use of similar names for two different things... but I decided to simplify my explanation[2]. I hope that now it is understandable :) Subtropical-man ( | en-2) 21:39, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, the explanation is still kinda awful. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 06:20, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have a different opinion. My explanation is understandable, this is not good English, but enough. Subtropical-man ( | en-2) 13:47, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Gentle, BHG. Subtropical-man isn't a native English speaker, and the explanation of the nomination is clear enough to work out. I suspect S-M's English is likely better than your Polish. Grutness...wha? 04:53, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Grutness, my nonexistent abilities in Polish would be highly relevant if I tried to start a discussion on Polish Wikipedia. But I don't, so they aren't. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:48, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support alt rename to Category:Suburbs of the City of Brisbane per Grutness. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:22, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Asmodea Oaktree: your closure is well-intended but it is not going to work, as you do not have access to admin tools to implement the rename and this is too big to process manually. Please revert. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:24, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
