Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of BlyatPutin[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of TryToBeFunny. Subcat Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of BlyatPutin‎ also merged. As GeneralNotability said, mergers like these are probably handled more quickly and simply by the SPI team. (non-admin closure) --Trialpears (talk) 09:24, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Same user, no need for 2 subcategories 4thfile4thrank (talk) 19:08, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: 1 month passed.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, 4thfile4thrank (talk) 22:18, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge — Although avoidance techniques have improved over time, once two separate violators are confirmed to be the same, they should be merged to aid future detection. Also, to kill the thrill.
    William Allen Simpson (talk) 14:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • If y'all want to deduplicate sockpuppet categories, all you had to do was ask an admin or SPI clerk to retag them and then C1 the category. GeneralNotability (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Male suicide bombers[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:17, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCEGRS, there is no indication that 'male suicide bombers' is a notable topic in its own right. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Probably created to balance the female category; which seems to indicate that female suicide bomber is a notable concept or is just sufficiently coverage-worthy because of its rarity that draws media attention. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:29, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Not a notable topic on its own. Dimadick (talk) 16:46, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge. Per WP:CATGENDER, a category for a minority gender does not need to be balanced by a mirror category for the majority gender. Place Clichy (talk) 16:38, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unconfirmed planets of the Gliese 581 system[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: everyone agrees that the category should be deleted. There were differing views on the appropriate merge target for the articles in it and a consensus was not really reached. I am defaulting to merging to all three parents, Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system, Category:Exoplanets in the habitable zone and Category:Exoplanet candidates. If this is incorrect for any of the articles, the wrong categories can be removed. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:43, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nonimator's rationale: Useless category, no other planetary systems have categories for unconfirmed planets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kepler-1229b (talkcontribs)

Suicides by city[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete/merge, trivial intersection between death and location. The merge need to take place manually because often the articles will already be in another subcategory of the merge target. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:54, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep certainly London and New York, bith of which are well populated. Merger will lead to categories so large as to hinder (not aid) navigation. Populate the rest if possible. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge the small categories (under 5 or so articles) with the geographically larger ones; for the large ones, re-parent them under the geographically larger one. That will aid navigation as categories with hundreds of entries ought to be broken down. Here, compliant geography is convenient and the NYC one is pretty well (de-)populated already. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep There is scope for expansion in the case of major cities. Dimadick (talk) 16:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and merge. Where people kill themselves is very rarely defining. Rathfelder (talk) 12:15, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep London and New York City, but the rest can be deleted. Lettlerhellocontribs 20:02, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. (non-admin closure) 2pou (talk) 16:42, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Perhaps the draft could be renamed as the main page is just Prime Video Starzoner (talk) 14:10, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Christmas Island[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge/delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:15, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layers that each do not contain any article and just a single subcategory. That makes it a very complicated category tree for a tiny island. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The above is preserved as an archive of the discussion. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Mayors of places in India[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:13, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Propose merging
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, just one, two or three articles in each of these categories and they are not part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:30, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge for Now While these places have presumably had more than five mayors, most would be non-notable. No objection to recreating any that exceed expectations and get up to 5+ articles. - RevelationDirect (talk) 13:22, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Murdered musicians[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete, but merge contents of "Murdered FOOian musicians" to "FOOian murder victims". Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:08, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Trivial intersection. No notable WP:DEFINING link between the occupation and the manner of death. Not expected as a professional qualification. There may have been many years between the occupation and the death, making the link even weaker.
Note: Sources about the death of a person will often discuss both their occupation and their cause of death. This doesn't make this intersection any more notable than a combination with other aspects often discussed in such notices, such as their number of children.

William Allen Simpson (talk) 07:30, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • How do you mean "cause"? I would expect a statistical relationship between being notable and being murdered, but that is not unique to musicians. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:02, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Merchant courts[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Shopping malls in Russia. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:02, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Not clear what the inclusion criteria is; there is no article for merchant court Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 02:46, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Initial reaction withdrawn after discussion below. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:35, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to a merge if that's the consensus. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:30, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lean toward keep with rename, but no objection to a merge. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:47, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Most of these buildings have not been used as shops for decades. They are notable primarily as architectural landmarks (often the oldest secular buildings surviving in a town or region). Ghirla-трёп- 11:16, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Insofar that is the case, add the articles to some subcategory of Tourist attractions. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:15, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:2020 United States racial unrest[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:41, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Considering the unrest article has already been renamed to account for 2021, the category should definitely go the same way. Love of Corey (talk) 02:07, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. One query - should that be an en-dash rather than an em-dash? Grutness...wha? 02:20, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I copy-and-pasted that title to ensure total accuracy, so you're going to have to ask the user who renamed the article, GorillaWarfare. Love of Corey (talk) 02:32, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that is an en dash. Just verified with [1]. It's certainly intended to be an en dash, if it isn't... GorillaWarfare (talk) 02:42, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. Love of Corey (talk) 02:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It may just be my ancient browser making it look wrong :) Grutness...wha? 13:45, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There we go, I suppose. Love of Corey (talk) 00:19, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment many of its parents are 2020 specific categories. Also, there is racial unrest virtually every year in the US and it's continual or continuous (and many of the sources in the articles say just that), so that begs the question why not just separate each incident by the year in which it occurred rather than trying to shoe-horn only those within a 2-year period? Or do reliable sources say that magically there was no racial unrest in the US in 2019 that dribbled over into 2020, and into 2021, etc. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:43, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly there was a lot of special notability in the unrest that occurred in 2020 and 2021 that resulted in said unrest having an article of its own. In regards to the 2019 unrest, I'd call that an overblown assumption, but it does appear that way. Love of Corey (talk) 00:51, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - It's been over three weeks now. How long does it take for a decision to be made? Love of Corey (talk) 08:42, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of Thiri Thudhamma Thingaha[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:03, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:PERFCAT and WP:OCAWARD)
When foreign leaders visit the Myanmar (formerly Burma), or vice versa, the Thiri Thudhamma Thingaha is given out as souvenir to commemorate the visit. Marshall Josip Broz Tito, Emperor Haile Selassie, and Premier Zhou Enlai are not remotely defined by this award. (The only Burmese/Myanma people in this category are the Presidents of Myanmar who are already well categorized under Category:Presidents of Myanmar) There is already a list right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Freemen of the City of Kimberley[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:02, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD) and WP:V (WP:RS)
The Freedom of the City of Kimberley is an award from Kimberley, South Africa that is obscure:
  • "Freemen of the City of Kimberley" in Google gets 18 results, all of which are Wikipedia related
  • The closest thing I found searching for "Freedom of the City of Kimberley" was an article about someone who received a different city's award which was reported in the Kimberley newspaper.
The same editor who created this category also wrote two biography articles (1 and 2) and they do mention the award prominently, citing an offline newsletter of a local historical society. The rest of the articles mention the award in passing or not at all so it doesn't seem to be generally defining though. I copied the current category contents right here so no work is lost if anyone wants to find reliable sources to establish notability in order to create a main article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
