Nominator's rationale: Following Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2021_May_27#Category:Interpretation, it turns out that this category was being used almost exclusively for heritage interpretation organizations.– Fayenatic London 22:51, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Following up on Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 June 23#Category:Wikipedians who like Mass Effect by nominating the other subcategories of Category:Wikipedians interested in video games that use the term "like" and aren't also in another parent where "Wikipedians who like X" is the standard naming convention. These should be deleted for the same reason that one was. I've also excluded Category:Wikipedians who like Game Center CX, since, despite being part of this tree, Game Center CX isn't actually a video game. * Pppery * it has begun... 21:44, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging participants from the previous discussion: @Gonnym, Jimydog000, Elli, VegaDark, and Justus Nussbaum: * Pppery * it has begun... 21:57, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Wikipedia:Overcategorization/User_categories#Irrelevant likes. Gonnym (talk) 23:53, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete the empty ones and maybe delete the ones with few links. While I think the unused ones are worth deleting I disagree with the incentive of "If we deleted X we should also delete Y." I've always asked questions like this on deletion nominations, but for things like this, that have no effect on the integrity of the content pages, what's the harm in keeping it? I mean, if everyone agrees to delete it, by all means. But why nominate it in the first place? --Diriector_Doc├─────┤TalkContribs 21:29, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: At the very least, I think the ones that should be kept are Minecraft, Assassin's Creed, and maybe Kirby. These categories are way more populated than the other ones, Minecraft especially. It's also possible that not all these users are categories via a userbox, or even the same userbox. I guarantee there are more than six userboxes that put users in the Minecraft category, and I don't think anyone wants to go through all 367 user pages to find which ones they are should the category be deleted. --Diriector_Doc├─────┤TalkContribs 15:33, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:USERCAT. Proclaiming that one "likes" something does not imply a willingness or increased ability to collaborate on topics related to that thing. If such users wish to collaborate on these topics to improve the encyclopedia, they can create a new category that better conveys that intention (an example being Category:Wikipedians interested in collaborating on topics related to Minecraft). VegaDark (talk) 02:28, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --Just N. (talk) 13:37, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Sign-language films[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:28, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Propose reversing an ~8-year-old speedy rename. Unlike Category:English-language films, this is not a compound adjective that should be hyphenated, which is why we have the (correctly) unhyphenated Category:Sign language notation and Category:Sign language television shows; this cat should match those. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:51, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Currently grammatically correct. English-language films are films in the English language. Sign-language films are films in sign language. Grutness...wha? 05:43, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment I'm not sure the comparison is actually valid. "English" is the name of a specific language, wheras "sign" encompasses an entire category of languages. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:47, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • The comparison of languages may not be valid, but the grammatical construction is the same for both. Grutness...wha? 14:20, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mild do not rename, though I could be convinced otherwise. Grammatically, doesn't the current form eliminate the question as to whether these are "sign language" films or sign "language films"? I agree that probably there is a minimal chance of that confusion (what are sign "language films"?), but still – it's grammatically correct. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:11, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The nominator's proposal seems convincing: the examples at least are. I'd tend to that solution. OTOH invoking grammar which is a very basal layer. Self-deluding? Confusing. --Just N. (talk) 12:21, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - as we have Sign language and Category:Sign language this should have been the speediest of speedies. Oculi (talk) 23:11, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per MOS:HYPHEN. "Sign-language" is a compound modifier in this noun phrase. It's the other categories without the hyphen that should be renamed. Nardog (talk) 08:22, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the hyphen. Far too many removals of this kind of hyphen when it makes the phrase correct. Just because a phrase is correct without the hyphen in certain usages, doesn't mean you can ignore context. Kingsif (talk) 14:19, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:30, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category now includes the chief minister and Wa'lī of Bangsamoro so, it would be reasonable to change its name. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:36, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I suggest creating a new category instead, called "Local executives of regions in the Philippines" (After "Local executives of places in Taiwan") or alternatively "Regional leaders in the Philippines" (after "Regional leaders in China") and making the current category as a subcategory.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 14:33, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927: We could alternatively continue to rename the Category:Regional governors of the Philippines to any of the proposed names and create a new category for defunct offices. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 01:25, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Place Clichy: They are completely unrelated. Regions have no centralised governments (except Bangsamoro, which is an autonomous region, and to some extent Metro Manila, which has a metropolitan development authority). —hueman1 (talk contributions) 01:33, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Oppose the proposal Category:Leaders of regions of the Philippines, open to "Local executives of regions in the Philippines". Leaders of regions are sometimes tribal leaders, criminals or civil war factions (e.g. Afghanistan, Philippines). We need unambigious category wordings. --Just N. The result of the discussion was: rename. plicit 13:39, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To clarify its scope. This category is for the Wikipedia:WikiProject Greece/Politics and politicians task force, but its current title describes a global scope.

Note that it is populated by {{WikiProject Greece}}, which will need to be updated if the category is renamed. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:44, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Fermiers généraux. "Fermiers généraux" is the correct pluralisation of "fermier général" (non-admin closure)Qwerfjkltalk 15:02, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: It is easier to just categorize people by the plural of the position's title rather than introduce it with "Holders of the office of". Category:Presidents of France, not Category:Holders of the office of president of France. The plural of "fermier général" is "fermiers généraux". The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. plicit 13:39, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:TRIVIALCAT & WP:SMALLCAT)
Google translate is not very helpful with "Rei Cretariae Romanae Fautores" but it's an organization of scholars of ancient Roman pottery. There is no main article, the only thing in the parent category is the subcategory, and the child cat contains 2 biography articles. Having 2 categories for 2 articles is just not likely to aid navigation. While the membership is non-defining, these scholars are defined by their specialty though so I created Category:Scholars of ancient Roman pottery and populated it. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:32, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, just membership of an organization is hardly ever defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:33, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom as there is no strong relevance, not even an article. --Just N. (talk) 14:07, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename both, per WP:C2D.
Nominator's rationale: The article about the place is Louisiana (New France). "Colonial French Louisiana" and "French Louisiana" are alternate name for the same thing, though French Louisiana is ambiguous. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:21, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
