Category:Oxford Graduate School[edit]

The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 06:37, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The main article changed to Omega Graduate School. There are insufficient items to keep this category. Hence I recommend deleting, rather than a rename. gidonb (talk) 22:58, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete -- We have a main article and a one-line article on its Chancellor, who had to resign as a pastor due to plagiarism. This is not sufficient for a category. I am glad to find the name has been changed from Oxford to Omega, as it looks as if it was trying to pass itself off as associated with Oxford University, by its doctor's program requiring a 10-day residency in Oxford, during which students have access to the Bodleian Library. Is this a degree mill? The requirement of 3 years of study for a doctorate sounds about right if that is what students are expected to perform. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:13, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Peterkingiron, good reading of signs! Followed a trail here from an accreditation mill on which I wrote an article in 2008. Right now I only raised a technical problem. More to follow. gidonb (talk) 22:59, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Aluminum companies of the United States per consensus, American spelling for American companies. Doczilla @SUPERHEROLOGIST 07:36, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Use American spelling (like Category:Aluminum companies of North America) GoingBatty (talk) 17:52, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Seems like a no-brainer. This category will be used almost if not entirely exclusively in articles where the American spelling is preferred. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 17:58, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. US categories should use US spelling. Oculi (talk) 19:46, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • support as category creator; seems reasonable Hmains (talk) 20:33, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support WP:ENGVAR, US categories should use US spellings. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:15, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, IUPAC spelling is not used, by default, for geo-specific topics. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:58, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but do not change parents to impose American aberrant spelling on the rest of the world. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:21, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'Comment Seems to me only a question of time that someone will do just that: attempt to "change parents to impose American aberrant spelling on the rest of the world" as Peterkingiron warned above. --Just N. (talk) 19:08, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 18:25, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Consistency with main article's name (Nyasa Big Bullets FC) Microwave Anarchist (talk) 16:59, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People forcibly stripped of Soviet citizenship[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:People denaturalized by the Soviet Union. – Fayenatic London 11:31, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: More NPOV, matches the main article denaturalization. There is already an established category tree for Category:Naturalized citizens by nation, there is not yet one for denaturalization or former citizens. (t · c) buidhe 09:42, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep -- The present name is much clearer. I regard "Denaturalized" as an obscure term and had to look at the main article to see what it was about. I then observed that there is no USSR section in the article. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:18, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Well, "denaturalization" is what it's called in reliable sources. The category should be consistent with the main article, if you want to rename it "forcible citizenship stripping" a RM would need to be filed. (t · c) buidhe 23:59, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, aligning with the title of Denaturalization. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:02, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Much clearer worded. Usabilty for users IMHO rules above abtract bean counters! --Just N. (talk) 19:13, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – I have no problem with including "denaturalized" (which isn't really that obscure) in the title for consistency reasons, but "denaturalized citizens" would seem to be a contradiction in terms, no? Something along the lines of Category:People denaturalized by the Soviet Union might be better. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 23:35, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Architecture of the Philippines. (non-admin closure) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 23:13, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Misspelled "Philippines" as "Philppines" JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 09:06, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Metroidvania games[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: keep. Consensus not to move (non-admin closure) (t · c) buidhe 05:07, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Main article is named Metroidvania, not "Metroidvania game". It would be more concise to shorten the title of the category. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 06:09, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose The use of "Metroidvanias" (as a plural) is extremely rare in sources. It's similar to that we don't have "Roguelikes" but "Roguelike video games" as the category. --Masem (t) 07:11, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Or more generally, "Metroidvania", like "roguelike", is more used often as an adjective rather than a noun, hence the need to name the category this way. --Masem (t) 07:32, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This source from Polygon uses "Metroidvanias": "Metroidvanias have been coming out with solid regularity across a wide variety of platforms. ". Also this one from Gamasutra/Game Developer: "Metroidvanias are at their best when the players are progressing on their own accord". It doesn't seem vanishingly rare to me. A lot of others use "the Metroidvania". As for the Roguelike category, I can see that being changed as well; "Roguelikes" is an extremely common term indeed, and it only refers to games. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 07:42, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose "It's similar to that we don't have "Roguelikes" but "Roguelike video games" as the category." To keep the better recognizable wording is absolutely reasonable. --Just N. (talk) 22:57, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Marcocapelle (talk) 06:20, 9 January 2022 (UTC) [reply]
  • Oppose - thinking as above. It is best to have the clarifying word "games" in the category name as it is more descriptive - Master Of Ninja (talk) 21:10, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Works about Intel[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 06:46, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: And the other two parent categories, due to WP:SMALLCAT; only entry is The Innovators (book). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:37, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I'm torn about this. On the one hand the critical works (features, non-fiction books) about Intel will not be found easily without a category like that. On the other it is a clear case of SMALLCAT. --Just N. (talk) 19:19, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. IF there will come out more entries of Intel history studies a new Category:Works about Intel will surely emerge. --19:23, 16 January 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justus Nussbaum (talkcontribs)

Nominator's rationale: To distinguish from the content category Category:Error. Merge target already redirects here. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 05:18, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename and this is probably a speedy. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 07:11, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
