The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 22:41, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I have never seen a reliable source use the phrase "Humor podcasts", whereas there are hundreds of reliable sources that use the phrase "Comedy podcasts" (i.e. [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], and [7]). The word "humor" is WP:NONDEFINING and unnecessary. It makes the category unnecessarily long, "Comedy podcasts" is much more precise. TipsyElephant (talk) 21:04, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: better name for a subcategory Michael H (talk) 20:35, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael21107: OK, I looked around to help out and it looks like this name format is standard in the Category:Association football league seasons by country tree. The Slovakia category had never been placed in that tree though so I just added it. I did likewise with the parent category I mentioned above. (I must confess these naming formats strike me as odd too but I wouldn't favor making the Slovak one different than all the others.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:11, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:K-pop-inspired girl groups from England[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:K-pop music groups. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 20:05, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: One cat made just to contain the other, and the other made just to contain one group, and neither even make sense as "K-pop-inspired" runs counter to the actual article for Kaachi which consistently calls them a K-pop group and never uses the word "inspire". The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 20:03, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, the articles in the two subcategories aren't about Iranian characters at all. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:20, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete No conceptual objection to category but it's effectively empty since the subcats are misplaced. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:24, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge, Persian Empire is ambiguous, it currently redirects to Achaemenid Empire but none of the three articles is about the Achaemenid Empire. By the way I wonder if Persian Empire shouldn't be redirected to Persian Empire (disambiguation) instead of to Achaemenid Empire. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:16, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: It is the only subcategory in Category:FIFA Women's World Cup music. It is very unlikely anything will be added in future. Dutchy45 (talk) 13:05, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 20:01, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCEGRS as this intersection an overcategorization. I also think this runs awfowl of WP:PEOPLECAT, WP:CATEGRS, WP:CATLGBT Mason (talk) 22:41, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Category:LGBT people is a long-established WP:DEFINING category tree, and a 2014 RfC established that Category:People with disabilities should exist (as a containercat), see its talk page. WP:OCEGRS itself even gives Category:LGBT writers as a standard example of a legitimate category, so combining all three to get Category:LGBT writers with disabilities is just a logical next step. I do think Category:Deaf LGBT people should be upmerged per WP:SMALLCAT, but otherwise this is a proper category with proper subcats. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 23:40, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't dispute either category by themselves; I'm just not sure that the intersection warrants its own category (per this part of the policy/guidance).

Categories which intersect a job, role, or activity with a disability or medical/psychological condition should only be created if the intersection of those characteristics is relevant to the topic and discussed as a group in reliable sources. Thus, we have Category:Deaf musicians and Category:Sportspeople with limb difference and Category:Actors with dwarfism since these intersections are relevant to the topic and discussed in reliable sources, but we should not create Category:Biologists with cerebral palsy, since the intersection of Category:Biologists + Category:People with cerebral palsy is not closely relevant to the job of biologist nor is it a grouping that reliable sources discuss in depth.

I'm not aware of a sizable literature that covers the intersection in depth. (And for what it's worth, I identify as both LGBTQ and disabled, so I suspect that I'd be more likely to be aware) Well, I'm now aware of it... Sexuality and disability Mason (talk) 00:11, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not surprised that there is a whole article about it. LGBT people with disabilities face double marginalization. Individuals with disabilities are often either viewed as nonsexual or hypersexual. Because of these misconceptions it is hard to find queer people with disabilities portrayed in healthy sexual lives. This is to be expected whenever there is an overlap between two marginalised demographics: they face double difficulties, double stigma, double uphill battles for emancipation. It's not uncommon to see queer people who are in a wheelchair, or who are neurodivergent, or who are blind, or who are deaf, etc. Not necessarily at higher rates of intersection than straight people, it's just what you would statistically suspect in a human population. Yet, prejudices are almost always there when certain members of the outgroup can't get their head around what it's like to be in such a double ingroup. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 01:19, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • If merged, the subcategories should be merged too. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:48, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. Since the 1950s were withdrawn, we have a clear consensus to rename. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 19:59, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename (over redirect), it only became an independent republic in 1960. The year categories also have "Moyen-Congo". Marcocapelle (talk) 15:42, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • It was also during a few years in the 1960s the name of Mongala province. I do not think that it is a big problem since the periods do not overlap, but at the same time I am open to alternative names. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:03, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Opera controversies[edit]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 19:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Please see WP:SUBJECTIVECAT and WP:CATDEFINING. Only two pages in this category tree are stand-alone articles about controversies: 2006 Idomeneo controversy and Controversies surrounding Richard Wagner. The remainder are just articles about operas deemed controversial for one reason or another. I suggest purging everything except the two controversy articles, then upmerging those. gnu57 22:13, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Purge and merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:46, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose; e.g. The Death of Klinghoffer mentions controversy in the lead section, and has a long section The_Death_of_Klinghoffer#Controversy_and_allegations_of_antisemitism. It is not necessary to have a separate article about a controversy before we can categorise as an opera controversy. It would be legitimate to create redirects with "controversy"/"alleged anti-Semitism" etc in the title for each case, and categorise these instead of the main articles, but I do not think this should be necessary. – Fayenatic London 09:41, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the controversies over eg Carmen and Salome are certainly defining, and don't need a seperate article. Johnbod (talk) 15:35, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

...and 71 others
Nominator's rationale: Following this CfD which established "Paintings in Foo" as the standard style for the subcategories of Category:Paintings by collection, I propose to apply the same style to other kinds of objects in museums. The "of" in "Paintings of Versailles", "Photographs of the Musée d'Orsay", "Drawings of the Louvre", etc., is unsatisfactory because it suggests depictions of those places, and changing "of" to "in" for other types of object is a matter of consistency.
