Category:Songs based on real people[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:18, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename aligning with all of its subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:33, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. Kbdank71 00:13, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: the parent Category:Works based on real people includes siblings "based on real people" for various other media types, but also includes other naming patterns, so this nomination does no harm at that level. The rationale applies equally to the films category, but not to the others. – Fayenatic London 16:39, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for finding the films sibling category, I have added it to the nomination. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:05, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Cultural depictions of James Joyce[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:19, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete and move the two subcategories up to Category:James Joyce. James Joyce is not a defining characteristic of the articles directly in this category, but he is a defining characteristic of the subcategories. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:26, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: SMALLCAT. ★Trekker (talk) 21:57, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per nom. The sibling may be nominated as well, since the whole tree only contains 9 articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:51, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:23, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:37, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disestablishments and establishments in Assyria[edit]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:23, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, only a total of 5 articles in 12 categories. No need to merge because the articles are already in e.g. Category:States and territories disestablished in the 10th century BC and Category:Populated places disestablished in the 7th century BC. Category:Saint Martinois of Guadeloupean descent[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Nominator's rationale: Non-defining category, useless intersection. Saint-Martin and Guadeloupe both are part of France, located on Caribbean islands. The only person in this category, Annick Petrus, was actually born in Guadeloupe (not just of Guadeloupean descent), at a time (1961) when Saint-Martin was part of Guadeloupe (it was split as a separate territorial collectivity in 2007). If we start to create descent categories for people born in different places of the same subdivision of the same country (such as Campanian people of Neapolitan descent or Long Island people of New Yorker descent), there will be no end to this. Also, if we populate Guadeloupean descent categories with people which are actually from Guadeloupe (and, in the case of Petrus, lived the first 30 years of their life there), what is even the purpose of descent categories? Category:Management calculus[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:25, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is a recently created category.
The apparent objective of its creator is to add this category to all pages of mathematics whose subject has been used once in management theory.
Anyway, most (possibly all) articles in this category do not contain anything that is specific to management. So, "management calculus" is blatantly a non-defining characteristics of the articles in this category. Also, if this category is kept, one should create, for coherence, a similar category for every area of knowledge that uses mathematics, which includes almost all sciences and technologies. Ridiculous. D.Lazard (talk) 14:40, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's an opinion, but it is a non-diffusing category, so it does not matter. Calculus is integral to management science which is why it would add value to the management category tree, that was the intention, rather than to add value to the mathematics tree. One could obviously speculate on the intention of having a "mathematics by subject" development of categories but that's foregoing things.
Where "whose subject has been used once in management theory" comes from, I do not know, then you would have to include a lot more articles than the 17 included, these are just the ones frequently used in management studies on an everyday basis (there's sources to this) and for that reason it could be considered a defining trait of management.
Also Wikipedia guidelines have no info on "category coherence" but administrators in here are obviously using the same anarchy as in other places as per usual.Danielsltt (talk) 14:47, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. For example Antiderivative is a concept in calculus in general, it is not specifically used by or in management. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:52, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No one said anything about it being specific to management. By that logic you'd have to delete all the "Roads of (nation)" categories because there are international roads .. Danielsltt (talk) 14:59, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Delete. After recent merges by Veverve (talk · contribs), this contains only one article and a few redirects to it. The article and the redirects are already in appropriate head categories, so no merger is needed. – Fayenatic London 13:28, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: delete, empty category apart from the userbox. If kept, rename to Category:Wikipedians who have access to OpenEdition.org since OpenEdition is ambiguous. The latter was opposed for speedy. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:41, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename (second option). (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:27, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 15:27, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCTRIVIA, WP:SMALLCAT, not a useful subgrouping, just a piece of trivia - car chasm (talk) 03:00, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. In addition, one of the two rulers in the category did not accept the offer to rule, rather than resigned, so the two are entirely different cases. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:23, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom Kbdank71 00:38, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete -- We might have included abdications, such as Edward VIII of England or Queen Juliana of Netherlands; even Pope Benedict XVI, but I do not think this is a useful category. Peterkingiron (talk) 22:49, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
