The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 18:47, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:EGRS/I: this intersection is not defining. Edward-Woodrowtalk 22:35, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, this is part of the tree of Category:Amputees by nationality. Admittedly nationality is trivial too here, but nationality is the main intersection criterion for the entire tree of Category:People. Most certainly WP:EGRS/I does not apply: nationality is not ethnicity. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:39, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, as par of established trees Category:Amputees by nationality and Category:Russian people with disabilities. WP:CATDEF explicitly cite the nationality of a person or the geographic location of a place as defining characteristics. Large categories are routinely diffused by such obviously defining characteristics. If you disagree with such categorization, I suggest two possible roads :
    1. If you consider for an individual article that amputation is anecdotal and not a defining characteristic worth a category, or otherwise not sufficiently supported by reliable sources, you may be bold and immediately remove the category for that article. Present your concise rationale in an edit summary, and be prepared to discuss the matter in the article's talk page if another editor objects.
    2. If you consider that amputation is never defining for any article, then you need to nominate Category:Amputees and all of its categories for discussion, not just the Russian one. Place Clichy (talk) 08:23, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose deletion. Amputee is defining, and the intersection with nationality makes the entire category manageable. Mason (talk) 23:47, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD, with all due respect to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. An anniversary medal rather than that for achievements. Nominator's rationale: Unencyclopedic social networking. We already have the properly named (but IMO still of questionably value) Category:Wikipedians who contribute to the SCP Foundation, and definitely don't need two categories. * Pppery * it has begun... 14:57, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Puerto Rican television presenters[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: option A. (non-admin closure) CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 18:57, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: From the introduction of article Television presenter (redirected from Television host), it seems that these terms are used one for the other. I guess this is an WP:ENGVAR issue. Out of Category:Television presenters by nationality, the majority use presenters but some use hosts, including Category:American television hosts. Puerto Rico seems to be the only place with two concurrent categories. I would bend towards option A per the parent American category, and hosts is an older category where most of the content actually is, which is IMHO that this is a usage compatible with Puerto Rico. Place Clichy (talk) 10:42, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option A per nom. This is indeed an ENGVAR issue: what much of the world would call a television "presenter", North American English speakers call a television "host", so they're just different words for the same job rather than different things. So there's no pressing need for two separate categories here — and although Puerto Rico isn't a principally English-speaking area, it is a territory of the United States rather than a fully independent country in its own right, and should thus remain in line with the American "hosts". But "presenters" should remain in place as a redirect to catch any future mistakes around this, as the parent Category:American television hosts also already has. Bearcat (talk) 14:05, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Option A per nom and also how Bearcat explained. Keep "presenter" as a redirect... --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 04:19, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Following previous discussions (1 and 2) and the discussion below, here is another set of occupations for which I do not see any obvious merit in ethnic-based categorization, per WP:EGRS/I. @LaundryPizza03, Qwerfjkl, Marcocapelle, RevelationDirect, and William Allen Simpson: pinging participants to previous discussion.
